Reiki is a Japanese
word meaning Universal Life Force. The Usui System of Natural
healing is the art of channeling Universal Energy as a form of hands on
healing.
Reiki was re-discovered in Japan in the late 1800's by Dr. Mikao Usui in some
Sanskrit writings which were 2500 years old. He found them after he
had studied Christianity, Buddhism and Japanese sutras, travelling widely in his search. To activate the power, Mikao Usui
spent 21 days meditating on a sacred mountain until he found a way to channel this energy
and pass it on to others.
Reiki was brought to the West in the late
1930's by Hawyo Takata, a Japanese American living in Hawaii. Now
Reiki has spread to every country in the World

change myself. It is like a drop of water falling into a
pond, the drop causes the ripples to spread far and wide in ever
larger circles." |

People from all
walks of life and from all religious beliefs practice Reiki, because Reiki
has no rules or dogma.
It is the simplicity of Reiki that
attracts. The only requirement necessary to learn this healing art
is an openess of mind.
Reiki is primarily for one's own use as a
means of self-healing, also as a path for personal growth and
transformation.
As a therapy to use on others it is not
only healing but deeply relaxing, working on all levels to re-balance the
body by working on the spiritual, emotional, mental and physical, giving
one a feeling of well-being, peace and tranquility. |

Reiki treats the cause of disease rather the
symptoms and speeds up the natural healing process.
Everyone has the ability to channel
Universal Energy, but in most people it lies dormant. A person who
is ready to receive Reiki will be drawn to it like a duck to water,
sometimes in seemingly strange ways. |
